Healthy cacao tree, the one that makes chocolate! These are healthy, well-rooted seedlings.
Beautiful tropical tree, grows pods with cacao beans right on its trunk.
These have been grown inside and are in 4 inch pots with good draining soil (sphagnum moss, perlite, neem cake mix). Currently under full spectrum grow lights for 6 hours daily. Trees are currently 7-9 inches tall from top of pot.
BTI is used when watering to keep flying bugs from laying in the soil.
Leaves have been sprayed w organic neem oil, within 2 weeks of shipping.
Care is bright indirect light (young plants prefer protection from intense direct sun).
Keep soil moist, not soggy. Grow indoors in large pot or outside in warm climates (Zone 9b+ or greenhouse).
Needs warm, humid climate for pods, 65-90°F. Sensitive to cold, below 40°F causes damage. Bring inside or greenhouse in winter. Super unique, rewarding for plant collectors or anyone wants to grow something different.
With good care, trees can produce real cacao pods. Slow growers at first but super satisfying once they mature. Great for tropical plant lovers, rare fruit collectors, or anyone who thinks growing own chocolate sounds fun. 🌿🍫
These require 2 trees for outdoor pollination, indoor will require manually pollinating flowers to produce pods.
A few references for more information about growing successfully.
